In Scotia, we focus on Air Mobility, a mission that delivers global air transportation of equipment and supplies during times of war and for peace-time training exercises. This includes providing safe, comfortable and reliable transportation of military personnel or dignitaries anywhere in the world. In addition, we perform scientific missions, which involves transporting scientists to Antarctica in specially designed, ski-outfitted aircraft.
The 109th Airlift Wing, located at Stratton Air National Guard Base, supports four federal missions: polar airlift, aero-medical evacuation, aerial port, and field hospital contingencies. Our missions require the use of multiple career fields, Security Forces, Services, Personnel, Communications, Supply, and many others. The 109th is the only Wing in the Air Force that possesses the ski-equipped LC-130 aircraft, which supports the National Science Foundation and makes these planes invaluable.
