At our Air National Guard Base located in Tucson, AZ, our primary mission is the Fighter mission, which involves air-to-air and air-to-ground operations designed to support ground forces and to gain control of enemy airspace. In addition, we handle the Remotely Piloted Aircraft with the Intelligence/ Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission; Air Training and Air Sovereignty Missions.
The 162d Wing is home to the largest Fighter Training Wing in the country. With three flying squadrons, the unit has trained partners from over 25 countries in the F-16 Falcon. The 162nd is also responsible for maintaining a 24/7 alert detachment, providing a rapid reaction force ensuring air sovereignty over the southwest. Operation Snowbird is also supported by the 162nd, providing support for visiting flying units from around the world looking to train in the optimal weather conditions.
