Benefits

ANG members enjoy the benefit of military membership with all the added stability and benefits that put an excellent quality of life within reach.

Compensation: Air Guard members receive monthly compensation for their service, as well as a number of other pecuniary benefits. Enlisting in certain career fields may make you eligible for enlistment bonuses or other incentives. Members can rely on insurance coverage via SGLI, and those choosing to contribute can take advantage of Thrift Savings as well. Upon accomplishing the necessary years of service and age requirements, you will be eligible to receive retirement benefits, and all of your previous military time will count towards it.

Education: If you received a GI Bill while on active duty it is yours to keep and use. Enlistment in certain career fields may make you eligible for increased GI Bill benefits, albeit if you didn’t receive a GI Bill while on Active Duty, you may qualify for the Montgomery GI Bill SR (Select Reserve), cost free! Most states offer college tuition programs, but as these benefits do vary from state to state, be sure to ask your recruiter about the benefits available to you, or you can preview them by selecting your state from the drop down box below. If you were previously in the AF, AFRES, or ANG your CCAF (Community College of the AF) credits will carry over into the ANG.

Training: Depending on your unit’s needs, you may be able to cross-train. Those joining from other services may find that the ANG does not have a career field that corresponds with your old one in which case training may be mandatory. Your unit recruiter will let you know what your options are based on unit manning, ASVAB scores and physical profile.

Satisfaction: Service and satisfaction go hand in hand in the Air Guard. As a member of the ANG, you will experience the fulfillment that comes from knowing you are a vital participant in the security and safety of the US and its individual territories, states and communities.
