This program is a non-contributory benefit, meaning no payment or reduction in pay is required to receive these benefits. With the Montgomery G.I. After your initial training, you'll return to an Air Guard unit close to where you live, work, or go to school. You can continue life as it was before you joined, except that you will serve at your unit 1 weekend each month, earning a paycheck for your service. You'll also spend about 2 weeks a year learning new technologies and information related to your Air Guard career functions. Being a member of the Air Guard will complement your life. As an Air Guard member, you'll be an integral part of the community where you live. You’ll have the opportunity to gain specialized skills that can further your civilian career, and you’ll stay on the cutting edge of the most advanced technologies. The Air Guard gives you the tools you need to go to college, providing you with the Montgomery G.I. Bill and other educational benefits. With the Air Guard, you may even have the opportunity to travel the world assisting in specialized humanitarian and defense missions.
